Russia is waging war not for oil and gas, but for our place in history. Do you agree with this statement? And is it right to understand that Russian gas andoil pipelinesare yet another weapon in the war against us and the civilized world? If so, what should we do to win this war?
- Russia literally does not fight for oil and gas, because it has more than enough its own resources. But Russia is trying to destroy oradaptits competitors. Today, it does this with Azerbaijan, for example. And in this way it takes its place in history, because then you can make an ideal situation when it becomes the most powerful player, while others are diminished.
As for Ukraine, yes. They have long been pretend on our place in history. And we are MaloRossia (Little Russia) for them- part of their history. Although actually it is the opposite.
But in the war against Ukraine, there is also an "energy motive". On the Black Sea shelf, a huge project was launched withExxonMobil for the development of gas fields, as well as two projects in the east - Olesko and Yuzivskydeposits. These were megaprojects, designed for 50 years. Gas extraction should be tens of billions of cubic meters. Of course, this is not competition to Gazprom, but it would be already enough that Ukraine jumped out of the needle of gas dependence. For these resources, of course, the Kremlin did not fight, instead it fought for the fact that these resources remained in the deposits and did not enter the market.

And as for how to resist, I always say to my European colleagues: you can put Russia on your knees in 45 days. It will not cost you much.
Since the 1973 oil crisis, the countries of the European Union have created strategic oil reserves. Each EU country had a 90-day reserve, and today it is in fact a 120-day reserve of oil and petroleum products. If the EU simply wanted to check how this mechanism works, and therefore decided to start using oil products from the oil reserve and refuse to import these goods for a 90-day period, what will happen to Russian oil exports?
It should be understood that oil exports are tied to extraction and transportation. And extraction is a continuous process. Three quarters of Russian export of oil and petroleum products is aimed at the European market. Accordingly, a pipe from Europe to China cannot be used. So, there are oil tanks in Russia, where you can store certain volumes. But according to my estimates, the total volumes of oil tanks in Russia will be enough for 45 days. While the European Union can be at least 90 days without oil supply. And many countries have a stock of 120-150 days.
I have presented this concept several times at various conferences. But, of course, if there is no consensus in the European Union and NATO, then they will be afraid to even think in this direction. But this does not mean that this should not be said to them. Necessary! We need to show that if you do not stop Russia by non-military force now, then you have to fight. And not only Ukrainian soldiers will die, but yours.
- In an interview to the Day, Oleg Rybachuk spoke about the Kremlin's policy of corruption in Ukraine through gas and pipes on the example of RosUkrEnergo. Have Tymoshenko gas contracts in 2009 the same logic? Is gas today the source of Kremlin’s corruption in Ukraine?
First. There is no longer any scheme of Ukrainian Kremlin corruption through gas.
Second. The scheme "RosUkrEnergo AG" and the so to say "scheme of Tymoshenko" are different schemes. In the case of the scheme RosUkrEnergo AG it worked efficiently.
I have two pieces of works, one of them is written in co-authoring with a Slovak colleague, where we analyzed in detail the whole scheme of RosUkrEnergo in 2011. You can visit our site and find it there. So, since RosUkrEnergo does not already exist, therefore this scheme does not work. But it works in Europe and successfully corrupts the European elite.
We have other working schemes, and they are similar to RosUkrEnergo. Today, there are no direct purchases of gas from Gazprom, they can not do anything. Purchases of gas from Europe are carried out not from like "EuroGasprom", but from many companies that supply us gas. There are different contracts, different conditions. Why should a small company supplying small amounts of gas corrupt someone in Ukraine? It will not have enough money for that. Corruption has gone, but it has not disappeared.
I always say about the law of preservation of corruption by analogy with the law of conservation of energy: if it has disappeared from somewhere, it is necessary to watch where it appeared.
And it appeared powerfully through the sphere of trade in petroleum products. And to us, under the guise of the Swiss company Glusco, the same Russian company RosNeft comes. A state-owned Russian company, which is no less dangerous than Gazprom. Vice versa. This is a more powerful company. It has its own tactics and strategy.
