"The Germans want to find understanding for themselves, so the hearings on the "Nord Stream 2" will be behind closed doors. In general, I would not overstate the role of the event. Perhaps, such meetings will be held in the future. Much will depend on the agenda in Germany before the elections. For us, the discussion on the construction of the pipeline is extremely important. With its activity, Germany will cause significant losses for us - $2 billion a year for transit of Russian gas to Europe. We can not remain indifferent to this. We believe Germany is almost the most significant ally for us. And yes, its rhetoric is correct, but its actions are completely opposite. For example, Merkel (German Chancellor Angela Merkel - "GORDON") insisted that the US would not provide lethal weapons to Ukraine", - Gonchar said.
In his opinion, the German position undermines the European unity in the issue of construction of the gas pipeline.
"We say that Russia is using energy as a weapon. And not only against Ukraine, but also against a number of other European countries. But Germany is trying now to implement large-scale projects of "Gazprom". In the EU there is no consensus on this issue, but the project is slowly moving forward. It is being realized now in Russia, but the vector of convergence is visible. Germany's position in this case only undermines European unity. And European Parliament draws attention to the fact that the "Nord Stream 2" contradicts the interests of Europe," - the expert said.
According to him, Ukraine does not make enough efforts to hinder the construction of this gas pipeline.
"Nord Stream" is not in vain called the new Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact. At that time, Sikorski (former Marshal of the Polish Sejm Radoslaw Sikorski. - "GORDON") referred so to the first stage of the Russian gas pipeline. The European Union could have included "Nord Stream 2" in the sanction list. But our part does nothing in this direction, too," - Gonchar summed up.
