Promoting energy efficiency in Ukraine: the best practices from Slovakia

On February, 27, the Conference "Promoting energy efficiency in Ukraine: the best practices from Slovakia" was held in the city Dnipro. The event was organized by the Slovak Foreign Policy Association (Bratislava), the Centre for Global Studies "Strategy XXI" (Kyiv), the Association "Energy Efficient Cities of Ukraine" (Lviv), with financial and organizational support of the Slovak Agency for International Development Cooperation - SlovakAid, USAID, the Dnipropetrovsk Regional State Administration, the Dnipropetrovsk Regional Council, and the Embassy of the Slovak Republic in Ukraine.

 

Конференц2The event was attended by the heads of Dnipropetrovsk oblast, the Ambassador of the Slovak Republic in Ukraine, heads and responsible persons for energy saving of district, city councils, district state administrations of Dnipropetrovsk, Donetsk, Zaporizhia, Kirovohrad, Luhansk, Mykolaiv, Odesa, Poltava, Kharkiv, Kherson regions.

Representatives of the Slovak government agencies, private organizations and enterprises, which have been partners of Ukraine in enhancing energy efficiency and energy conservation for many years, talked about the best projects implemented in their country, presented some tools of financial support of Ukraine in this direction.

According to the press service of the Dnipropetrovsk Regional Council, “Dnipropetrovsk region is one of the largest consumers of energy resources, because the majority of industrial facilities which have large energy intensity are concentrated in this region, so energy sector is one of the working priorities of the regional authorities”.

Gleb Prigunov, Chairman of the Dnipropetrovsk Regional Council, said: “We have active Regional complex strategy for development alternative energy sources. Last year we shifted municipal institutions of Dnipropetrovsk region to alternative heating: schools, kindergartens, hospitals, including the largest regional hospital complex on Kosmichna street”.

КонференцWe also actively support communities in their efforts to save energy. Regional budget co-finances their energy efficiency measures: last year communities submitted more than 200 mini projects, about 40 of them were funded.

“We are willing to adopt the best international practices for energy conservation and energy efficiency. I am sure that Slovakia will become our reliable partner in these issues. I am looking for fruitful and mutually beneficial cooperation!” – Gleb Prigunov said.
