"Indeed, the situation seems odd, because the situation with the Nord Stream 2 has not yet been resolved, despite the permission of Germany, and they already talk about the Nord Stream 3. This statement, most likely, is made with a sight for the future. It looks irrelevant now. Why is Nord Stream-3 needed, if Nord Stream-2 hasn't been implemented?", - Gonchar said.

However, in case of certain developments in the South Caucasus, the Russian Federation may have trump cards, he added.

According to him, as for the Caucasus, it is not so much about the current events in Armenia, but about the possible actions of Azerbaijan against the backdrop of Armenian events in terms of returning the control over Nagorno-Karabakh.

He emphasized that if a new Armenian-Azerbaijani war breaks out, this would be an ideal situation for the Russian Federation.

"The South Caucasian energy transport corridor can supply gas from non-Russian sources to Europe, and gas pipeline construction projects are also being implemented there, respectively. From Azerbaijan to Turkey, there is a gas pipeline through Georgia, and through Turkey - to Europe. Then an argument arises - here, they say, everywhere is unstable. Middle East, South Caucasus are unstable. Accordingly, there is one reasonable alternative - gas from Yamal, on Yamal everything is calm", - the energy expert explained.

Thus, there may be pressure to quickly complete the Nord Stream-2 and launch the third one, he stressed.

In his opinion, it is now important what will be in Armenia and Azerbaijan, where there is a new government. It is no accident that there were elections, because it is quite probable that Azerbaijan has certain intentions.

"All this can play the hand of the Russian Federation. Therefore, Russia makes such proposals in advance in order to declare then that Gazprom has proposed a decision. Russia operates in an inherent manner - warms up the conflict, and then allegedly serves as a peacekeeper," Mykhailo Gonchar summed up.
