Since independence in 1991, Ukraine inherited part of Soviet fuel and energy complex on own territory. However, national energy complex continued to use further previously developed routes of energy supply, as well as technological and industrial interrelations. After a very short time, energy sector drew attention of both former Communist party nomenclature and leaders of criminal world. Due to access to financial, administrative and force capacities, both parties gained opportunities to obtain control over energy sector assets.
