Memorandum of Understanding on a Strategic Energy Partnership
24 November 2016 in Brussels in the framework of the 18th EU-Ukraine summit, Ukraine, the European Union and the European Atomic Energy Community, signed a Memorandum of Understanding on a strategic energy partnership. As the annotation to the memorandum stated, the document updates the strategic partnership in the energy sector of Ukraine, which provides the EU Strategy for the Energy Union of 25 February 2015. The purpose of the memorandum is an updated full integration of energy markets between Ukraine and the EU in the interests of consumers, taking into account the need to strengthen mutual energy security and environmental protection in the energy sector. Since the entry into force of the revised memorandum, a memorandum between Ukraine and the European Union on cooperation in the energy field signed on 1 December 2005 expires. Memorandum is signed for 10 years with the possibility of revision and validity extension.
