Challenges for Ukrainian Gas Transit

In coming 3-5 years Russia is not able to stop gas transit via Ukraine, but latter on Ukraine has to be prepared for it, according to Irina Kosse, senior scientific researcher of the Institute for Economic Research and Policy Consulting for VOXUKRAINE.

Russia decides on new gas transportation routes, based on political considerations rather then economic sence. Therefore, possibility of complete holding of gas transit via Ukraine may not be ruled out.

Some negative impact on gas production projects in Europe can be caused by lower oil prices and following shortening of shale gas production worldwide.

Ukraine should make efforts to prepare itself for possible reliance on own resources, which require diversification, lower energy intensity and energy savings.
