"The Turkish Stream is already being built and, obviously, will be launched earlier than the Nord Stream 2, which is now at the project stage", the president of the Centre for Global Studies "Strategy XXI" Mykhailo Gonchar says.
According to him, Ukraine, in the course of implementing these two Russian projects, may also lose the opportunity to use the capacities of its GTS, which is the possibility to transfer of over one hundred and forty billion cubic meters of gas per year. The maximum remaining volumes will be the transit of 10-15 billion cubic meters of gas per year.
Oleg Prokhorenko, the chairman of the board of Ukrgazvydobuvannya, also said that the launch of the Russian Nord Stream 2 could significantly reduce the volume of gas transit through the territory of Ukraine.
To avoid such a scenario, Ukraine, according to Oleg Prokhorenko, should involve international partners to use jointly its gas transmission system. However, Mykhailo Gonchar says, it's too early to say with certainty that the Nord Stream - 2 will be built".
