A state of emergency in the energy sector: the government artificially creates the "Apocalypse"

The spread of chaos, because several thermal power plants (TPP) which work on anthracite were stopped, is inappropriate. It looks like a campaign. We do not have the same needs now. It would be a problem at the peak of consumption during the heating period in winter. Such comments were made to "Slovo i Dilo" by the expert on energy issues, president of the Centre for Global Studies "Strategy XXI", Mykhailo Gonchar, evaluating prolongation of the state of emergency in the energy sector and the suspension of several TPPs operating on anthracite.

"First, with the forthcoming summer period the consumption is reduced. Therefore, it is necessary to focus not on the statements of economic entities which have not adopted timely measures to transfer the anthracite power units on the use of non-anthracite brands of coal. We should look at the statements of the Joint Dispatching Center of "Ukrenergo", as it will make those statements if there is a problem for the functioning of the integrated power system. Now the system works in a regular mode", - the expert says.

Second, the TPPs are stopped during the summer for maintenance, the thermal units are stopped. It's not nuclear energy. Thermal power generating units are less powerful here.

"There are capacities to maneuver. There is no Apocalypse, except of that that is created artificially", - he stressed.

Electricity production on the anthracite power units is 10-15% in the overall balance. It is not critical.

The problem is artificially created. A state of emergency in the energy sector was a great foolishness of the government from the very beginning. This is a political game of state power.

"There was no need in it at all. Nasalik said the period of rolling blackouts would be from 13 to 40 days. 13, then 40 days passed but nothing happened and will not happen if someone does not come to mind to do something deliberately to prove that they were right. That's the danger, not the stop of the TPPs. The government is playing the wrong game", - Mykhailo Gonchar explained the situation.

On February, 17 the Government of Ukraine introduced a state of emergency in the energy sector. A week ago, the Cabinet of Ministers extended the state of emergency.
