According to the expert, sending of the official letters of warning to contractors of the Nord Stream 2 through the U.S diplomatic mission in Germany indicates that the process of imposing US sanctions has become practical.
Since signing by Donald Trump of the law imposing sanctions against Russia on August 2, 2017, Washington has repeatedly tried to persuade the Europeans to stop the construction of the gas pipeline. For a long time, the United States tried to persuade the Germans as the main promoters of the Nord Stream 2 that this project not worth to be realized. It is simply inappropriate for the interests of the EU, but it is also dangerous. Such approaches are completely grounded in the United States, because there is not yet a gas pipeline, and there has already been a split in the Transatlantic and European formats, so the United States after the "therapy" session are moving to the "surgery."
The expert did not rule out that the German companies that build an odious gas pipeline could refuse to participate in the project, as US sanctions would not allow them to implement other profitable contracts.
Technically and technologically Gazprom is unable to build independently the Nord Stream 2. That's why the Russians signed a contract with several hundred contractors and subcontractors who are installing and laying pipes to the bottom of the Baltic Sea. There are few such companies in the world and they have many other rare orders for the construction of underwater oil and gas pipelines on industrial sites in the EU. Realizing that US sanctions can harm their interests, these companies can stop the construction of the Nord Stream 2, in order not to lose business in other projects. Getting to the American "black list" is not good for these companies, because later it is very difficult to get out of it.
Mykhailo Gonchar is also convinced that the contractors can continue to build the gas pipeline on condition of payment of compensation. However, according to the expert, such compensation may be billions of euro and the German government is not interested in paying them. In addition, some German officials and politicians see their own commercial interest in the project, which fueled the hidden corruption. It is the factor, in the opinion of the analyst, that threatens European and Euro-Atlantic unity in the face of the Kremlin's threat.
