France's decision regarding the Nord Stream 2 shows that the EU is dominated by Germany - Gonchar

The decision of France to compromise with Germany regarding the Nord Stream 2 demonstrates the ability of Germany to impose its will on other EU member states. Such a view on the air of the Ukrainian Radio in the program "International context" was expressed by the president of the Center for Global Studies  "Strategy XXI" Mykhailo Gonchar.

Everything that happened yesterday shows that, in essence, in the European Union, with all its declarations about the French-German tandem, Germany dominates. If there was no Nord Stream 2, then it would have to come up to make sure that the EU as such was transformed into a German Union, Mykhailo Gonchar said.

On February 8, 2019  Paris and Berlin settled their dispute around the Nord Stream 2 and reached a compromise on the EU gas directive. France and Germany on Friday submitted proposals for amendments to the gas directive, agreed with the European Commission.

One of the proposals was that the responsibility for gas pipelines with third countries, including Russia, lies on the country where the gas pipeline is first encountered with the European network. In this way, Berlin and Paris agreed that all decisions on the Nord Stream 2 would be taken by Germany.
